About Earthward

Welcome to Earthward! Earthward is a newsletter offering educational essays on all aspects of the climate and renewable energy space. It explores the gap between our present situation and what it will take to realize our aspirations for a fully decarbonized world. Earthward delves into the latest climate research, technological solutions, policy innovations, and global/US political developments that affect how we move forward.

Each Earthward essay dives deeply into a relevant topic in the recent news, offering explanation and context to put the issue in relief. Earthward is an outgrowth of the climate and renewable energy education efforts that I began with the publication of From Knowledge to Power: The Comprehensive Handbook for Climate Science and Advocacy (Ooligan Press, November 30, 2021), https://www.fromknowledgetopower.com/

Earthward takes a science-forward and (as much as possible) politically inclusive approach. The newsletter aims to inform and inspire action by citizen advocates, and to serve as a resource for high school, university and adult education classes on climate change and renewable energy.

I am a research scientist specializing in environmental biochemistry, with additional formal training in environmental law and experience with climate advocacy work in Washington DC and Oregon. I have advocated extensively for a national carbon tax with the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, and also seek to influence climate and renewable energy policymaking in Oregon through my work with Mobilizing Climate Action Together; see mcat-climate.org. MCAT is a group of experienced healthy climate advocates in the Portland, Oregon metro area, organized under the auspices of the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.

Again, welcome, and I hope that you enjoy and benefit from reading Earthward!
